Why I Choose Australian Cotton for It-Fits Sheets

When I started It-Fits, the goal was simple: to create beautiful jersey sheets that make life easier and sleep better. My background is in textiles, so I understood how much the right fabric structure can change how something feels and performs. I always knew the magic was in the jersey knit, that soft, stretchy, breathable structure that hugs your mattress instead of fighting it.

Jersey was always the foundation. But as someone who has worked closely with fabric mills for years, I wanted to make sure we paired it with the best fibre for sleep, something naturally breathable and soft on the skin. That’s why I chose cotton. And not just any cotton, Australian cotton.

Why Cotton Sheets Help You Sleep Better

Cotton is a natural fibre with a unique ability to breathe and regulate body temperature. It keeps you cool when it’s warm and cosy when it’s cool, helping your body stay in that comfortable balance that’s essential for deep sleep.

Research has shown that cotton helps stabilise your temperature during the night, reducing wake-ups and promoting longer, deeper rest. It absorbs moisture naturally, allowing air to circulate freely and preventing that sticky feeling that can come from synthetic fabrics.

Cotton also feels beautiful against the skin, soft, smooth, and hypoallergenic. That’s why it’s often recommended by dermatologists for people with sensitive skin or allergies. And when it’s knitted into jersey, like ours, that softness is taken to another level.

Why Australian Cotton Was the Natural Choice

When I was working for a fabric supplier, helping them develop new designs, something really stuck with me. They told me that whenever they needed a fabric to be perfectly white, they would always use Australian cotton because it was the cleanest and purest available. That memory came back years later when I was deciding which fibre to use for It-Fits sheets.

Australian cotton is known around the world for its exceptional quality, purity, and softness. It’s grown by about 1,500 farmers across the country, most of them family-run, who have worked hard to reduce water use, land requirements, and pesticides. Supporting Australian cotton means supporting local growers and sustainable farming practices that care for both people and the planet.

We only use 100% certified Australian cotton and can trace each bale back to its origin through unique identifiers, ensuring complete transparency in our supply chain. It’s our way of making sure that what touches your skin is safe, natural, and responsibly made.

Safe Bedding for Your Skin and the Planet

Every fabric we produce is tested before it becomes an It-Fits sheet. We only use Oeko-Tex certified fabric, meaning it’s free from harmful chemicals and safe for your skin. Our fabrics are also tested in independent laboratories to ensure they meet strict European quality standards for durability, shrinkage, pilling, and colour fastness.

That’s something I’m deeply proud of, because good sleep should never come at the cost of your health or the environment.

The Perfect Balance: Soft, Sustainable and Stretchy Sheets

When I created It-Fits, I didn’t want to make just another set of sheets. I wanted to create something that truly makes a difference, something that feels beautiful to sleep in and helps you rest better.

By combining the comfort of jersey knit with the purity of 100% Australian cotton, we’ve brought together the best of both worlds: softness, breathability, and natural comfort that lasts.

For me, this has never been about making products. It’s about creating something you love sleeping in, night after night, and something you can feel good about, knowing it’s made responsibly and supports a healthier planet.

Australian Cotton Sheets: FAQs

Why choose Australian cotton for your sheets?

Australian cotton is known for its purity, softness, and sustainable farming. It’s grown under high environmental standards by family-run farms. We use 100% Australian cotton in our jersey sheets for its clean, high-quality fibre that feels gentle on your skin and supports local Australian communities.

What is the best material for bed sheets and sleep comfort?

Cotton is one of the best materials for bed sheets because it’s breathable, natural, and helps regulate body temperature. Unlike synthetic fabrics, cotton absorbs moisture and allows airflow, keeping you cool in summer, warm in winter, and comfortable all night long.

How can I tell if my bed sheets are safe and chemical-free?

Look for bedding made from Oeko-Tex certified fabric. This certification guarantees your sheets are free from harmful chemicals and safe for even sensitive skin. All It-Fits fabrics are Oeko-Tex certified and tested to meet strict European safety and environmental standards.

How does It-Fits ensure the quality of its bed sheets?

Every fabric we produce is tested in independent laboratories before becoming an It-Fits sheet. We check for durability, shrinkage, and colour fastness to ensure long-lasting quality. Our manufacturing partners follow strict European standards, so your sheets stay soft and hold their shape wash after wash.

Why are jersey cotton sheets better than regular cotton sheets?

Jersey cotton sheets combine the softness of natural cotton with a knitted structure that stretches and moves with your mattress. They fit better, stay in place, and feel like your favourite t-shirt instead of stiff woven fabric, making bed-making easier and sleep more comfortable.
